Open Build With Design
Introduction To Design
Location - Salfords Guide Hall, Honeycrock Ln, Salfords, Redhill RH1 5DG
Skill Level – Beginner (Basic)
Price - £150
Duration – 4hrs
Start Time - 11am
Clothing - To work in the wood shop, proper attire is required. When working with power tools, no jewellery or baggy clothing is permitted. Long hair should be pulled back. There will be no open-toed shoes or high heels allowed. Loose clothing can easily become entangled in a power tool, which can be extremely dangerous.
This introduction course is ideal for those looking for a bigger challenge, those with prior building experience, or those looking to broaden their understanding of woodworking. The emphasis will be on the fundamentals of woodworking, such as an introduction to power tools, sawing, and drilling. The goal is for customers to gain a basic understanding of woodworking.
This will be a full-on course that will start with tea or coffee, introductions, and, as with all of my courses, an in-depth discussion on tools, how to set them up, and how to use them safely. We'll go over how to stay safe while using the supplied personal protective equipment. There will be time for you to practise using all of the tools before seeing how pallets are dismantled into usable timber that we can then use.
Prior to the course, you will be asked to create a piece. It does not have to be a detailed piece; simply an idea of what you want to make. We'll go around and talk about everyone's design while figuring out the best way to make it. You will then have time to create your items using the tools and materials provided. Remember that this build must be completed within the course's time constraints. If you're stuck for ideas or want to try something new, there will be instructions for items that can be made on the course available on the day.
This course will provide you with hands-on experience and an understanding of the fundamentals of woodworking, and by the end of the course, you will have a beautiful hand-crafted item of your own to take home.
Materials used on the day - Pallet wood
Tools available on the day - Chop Saw, Jig Saw, Reciprocating Saw, Drills, Hand Saws (Tools may be limited at times; if you wish to bring a tool, please let me know before booking onto the course.)
Please keep in mind that all pieces created on the course must be removed following completion. Items left behind will be discarded, so plan accordingly if you are not driving. Some items can be quite large, so this should be taken into account as well.
